"Little Red" by Gilmore Tamny

In this link to the story, "Little Red" by Gilmore Tamny, the author narrates as a concerned observer of the fiction archetypal character Little Red Riding Hood. The plot is a variation of the Grimm fairy tale in which the wolf eats the grandmother and then Little Red, but the difference in the plot is that Little Red gets a Deus-ex-Machina from an intrusive narrator. The narrator/writer gives Little Red a .38 caliber gun to protect herself, but Little Red is still devoured by the wolf. Then, Little Red, from inside the wolf's belly, shoves her granny's spectacles up into the wolf's throat so that he chokes. At the climax of the story, a Mary Kay consultant gives the wolf the Heimlich maneuver. The wolf vomits up Little Red and her grandmother. The wolf disappears into the forest. Little Red moves in with her granny. In the denoument, Granny & Little Red sink into a post traumatic stress disorder with phobias and insomnia so bad that they are too afraid to leave their cottage..until Little Red decides that the wolf has ruined their lives for too long. Little Red takes charge, rebels against Granny's warnings. leaves the house and curses the wolf's existence with a RANT! (IN ALL CAPS)!
